Tips On The Preparation Of Homemade Lavender Neck Wrap

By Sharon Harris

When the muscles of the persons body are overworked, this would often result to stress and may possibly develop muscle pains, and thus, making you feel uncomfortable. In order to relieve the sore muscles, there are a lot of different ways that can be done. Lavender neck wraps are very common for the relief.

The products can be microwavable. And these are not like those types which are used traditionally. These new products can cool down quickly and usually, in less than an hour only that would result to not overheating your muscles. The lavender neck wrap which is homemade may be done by using household ingredients and recycled fabrics.

So start on choosing the suitable fabric. You may also purchase a new one but can recycle as well such as old shirts, towels, socks, etc. Always remember to avoid on using materials which contain metals since these may possibly catch fire if the wrap is being heated. A large and a thick sock is recommended because the shape is in tubular form and the sides are sewn already.

Take measurements of both your neck and your shoulders as well by the use of tape measure. For each measurement, 0.5 inch must be added or equivalent to a 1.3 centimeters for the seams to be accounted. Some people may not want to take measurements so for them, the common measurements would be 5 inches in width and 20 inches in length, equivalent to 13 and 51 centimeters respectively. Using the measurements, cut the clothing pieces.

Choose an appropriate filling for the wrap. The most common choices for these may include barley, long grain white rice, oatmeal, and flax seeds. If you prefer to use rice, avoid the instant type since it can be cooked when placed inside the microwave. One important role for this is the scent. With this case, the essential oils that contain lavender can be mixed with some other spices together if necessary. Keep the mixture for two days but stir it regularly to distribute the scent evenly.

Start cutting the fabric based on the measurements. If socks or towels are used, no need to cut it. Both inner parts and outer parts of the double fabrics will be cut to rectangular forms. And also, the lining should be cut a bit smaller than the out covers. Typically, the measurement of the lining is about half inch smaller.

Fold the material along the length and the inner part must be facing out. Pins may be used for securing the seams of the cloth and to sew it properly. The sewing process may either be done by hand or machine. The seams must be sewed tightly to avoid the rice grains from coming out when using the wrap. Leave about a half inch in one end.

If inner or outer bags are utilized, the latter must be left with open end this is because it is opened regularly if the inner bag will be heated. Next is to pour the grain mixed with scent into the inner bag using funnel. Sewing a zipper may be necessary so that opening and closing the sack is easier.

Place the inner bag in a microwave then heat it for about 90 seconds. If not yet warm enough, continue on heating it but leave a 30 second interval. Then after, wrap it around your neck and shoulders for 20 minutes or until it will cool down. Wash and replace the fabric and the filler every 3 to 6 months.
