By Jeffrey Hughes

While having a child may be an extremely exciting experience for some parents, no one is prepared enough for anxieties as well as depression that may come with it. It is estimated that one in every five women suffer from after birth depression. However, few consider seeking medical help since it is seen as shameful. Scientists came up with an approach called postpartum Ayurvedic medicine to help such mothers make a difference in themselves during the first 42 days of delivery. Following points explain activities recommended by that methodology.

To curb loneliness and emptiness, mothers can ensure they have company at all times. Most importantly, allow relatives or friends to take care of you during that period. However, avoid cases whereby there are so many of them at once. Since resting plus sleeping is very important during suckling, it ought not to be destroyed by too many visitors.

Secondly, your body needs a lot of energy during breastfeeding. Likewise, many organs are adjusting to the original state. Thus, mothers must ensure what they eat is very healthy. Avoid cold foods as well as smoothies. Similarly, hard foods such as meat ought to be evaded at the beginning since your digestive system is not strong enough. Instead, hot drinks especially bone soup is recommended. Additionally, before and after eating, munch some chafed ginger root with some salt coupled with lime. If this causes your baby stomach pains, it is advisable to stop.

When it comes to proper feeding habit, it is necessary to create a feeding calendar earlier before delivery. Share this with relatives who will be bringing you food in shifts. It is tiresome to cook let alone think of what to be eaten while one is breastfeeding.

Back pains plus organs fatigue are a common experience among breastfeeding moms. In their state, exercising may be strenuous hence not advisable. Instead, regular massage with warm oil provides most needed relaxation. Therefore, new moms can request their partners or family members for a massage once in a while. If that is not possible, they can bath in warm oil regularly.

Normally, bellies sag after birth. Doctors advise that immediately after delivery, moms can tie their abdominal area with a wrapper or tummy trimmers. It should, however, be tight enough to provide comfort. Caesarian section mothers cannot do that while their wound is still fresh.

Another thing parents should observe is enough sleep. Looking after babies is emotionally draining. Most post-delivery cases of depression are caused by insufficient sleep. Likewise, baby sleep patterns may affect parents since they also have their habits. To counter this, moms should strive to sleep when their infants sleep. If this is not possible, they may sleep while close people hold their babies.

Post-delivery stress may come overwhelmingly sometimes. Normally for many moms to ignore feelings of fatigue, sleeplessness, the guilt of inadequacy among others. Others shut themselves off people hoping those feelings will disappear with time. This may not happen. Thus, they should seek assistance from professionals. Mothers ought not to feel ashamed of seeking assistance.
