The Therapy Of Probiotics For IBS

By Iva Cannon

An irritable bowel syndrome refers to a gastrointestinal disorder. This is similar to other disorders such as bloating and indigestions. The disorders are very disturbing to the comfort of an individual and thus require treatment. There is some treatment therapy which involves the use of probiotics for IBS control and regulation. You may have heard about this from friends and colleagues. The therapy involves using these living microorganisms in controlling the disorder.

Probiotics are some living microorganisms or bacteria present in our bodies. Unlike the illness causing bacteria, these kinds of bacteria if used in adequate amounts can offer great health benefits. They are available in foods and supplements. The normal body of a person carries around 500 different types or species of these bacteria whose purpose is to keep our healthy immune system stable and solid.

The use of antibiotics upsets the balance of healthy bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract. This causes the lining of the intestines to get damaged which is a dangerous thing. Such wounds could result into ulcers. The introduction of new organisms like those present in the probiotics corrects the imbalance by restoring the intestinal lining to a healthy state just as before.

Apart from treating the IBS, the organisms in this bacteria also help in the treatment of other gastrointestinal disorders which include diarrhea, colitis, bloating, indigestion, and acid reflux. Some studies have been carried out to indicate how responsive the IBS symptoms are for various different probiotic medications.

One among the various bacteria of this kind which have been tested in high quality studies and shown positive a beneficial effect is the Bifidobacterium infantis. The bifidobacterium has shown some consistent improvement with various symptoms of the irritable bowel syndrome. These are gas and bloating. Other many studies which have been undertaken to examine the benefit of these microorganisms in IBS are however small and of generally low quality.

Probiotics help regulate bowel functions that include immune function, sensation, motility and more. They are available in many different forms. You can find them as capsules, pills, liquid or even powder forms. They can also be found in singular or combination forms. There have also been tests on yeast to see its probiotic effects. The yeast which is some dead bacteria is being studied to get its effects for this treatment.

To achieve maximum effect in the treatment using these bacteria, there are things which you need to consider. The probiotics should be kept refrigerated. You should also use a treatment that has several different bacterial strains. This will help you in choosing and understanding which one has the best effect on you. The treatment should also be taken immediately after using antibiotics.

The drugs should be used in adequate dosages. You should not be afraid of an overdose in this case. The probiotics should be taken in adequate amount for maximum effects. You cannot overdose on this. They should however not be taken with food. They can either be used 30 minutes prior to eating or after it.
