The clear liquid tapped out of young, green coconuts is called coconut water. Coconuts are the fruit from the coconut palm and are popular in many regions of the world, such as: Pacific Islands, tropics, Africa, Southeast Asia, Caribbean, Brazilian Coast and India. In these areas, the drink is readily available bottled, fresh or canned. There are numerous variations of the drink available and some might be curious to know what the best tasting coconut water is.

As is true of most things, the best is subjective. It might depend on the personal preference of an individual who is drinking it. Coconuts that are used for drinking are served chilled, fresh or packaged in many restaurants and stores. There are street vendors who will cut them open right in front of a customer using machetes or similar tools. This drink might be sold in cans, plastic bottles or tetra paks as well. When bottled, the drink is estimated to have a shelf life approximately two years.

In recent times, this product has been advertised as being a natural sports or energy drink because of its high potassium and mineral components. Marketers have also touted its low fat, calories and carbs. Still, some claims about the health benefits associated with the drink have not been proven to be fact.

Naturally this has a nutty, sweet taste. It features carbohydrates that are easily digestible. The water is at the fruit's center and tapped from green coconuts. It is different than coconut milk that is high in fat.

Generally, it is believed to include more potassium and less sodium than sports drinks that are sold today. Many manufacturers add extra ingredients to this, which actually makes it less beneficial to consume. In fact, there are some drinks containing more sugar than recommended and that are not healthy. Reading labels and becoming familiar with the manufacturers of a product is important.

Those who like drinks sweet might not find this to be satisfying enough. Still, this and water are known to be ideal for quenching thirst and giving the various organs the water they need. To some people, the best tasting ones are that which include extra sugar and flavors. Others may consider the best to be that which is fresh from the coconut and includes nothing but the natural water.

Each individuals is expected to have his or her own thoughts on this drink. Still, most professionals that work in the medical field believe that it is best to drink this in a form that is closest to the natural state. This is essential for taking in all the potential benefits.

Those who do not like coconuts may not like this drink, although many do not believe that this carries as much flavor as the meat of the fruit. The drink can be diluted or mixed into fresh vegetable juices to add a change in flavor. It can also be diluted with regular water to help further reduce the subtle taste. There are many options for making this drink more appealing that do not involve adding various chemicals and more sugar, which are hard on the body.
