The Truth About Anaphylaxis And The Epipen Carrier Connection

By Sherry Gross

The immune system actually acts as the first line of protective mechanism of the body against common illnesses. The average human being makes antibodies that serve as the natural soldiers that fight invaders that may make their way to your system. It is the function of an antibody to recognize which is enemy and which is ally. It keeps the ally safe by extinguishing the foe.

But somehow, there can be system glitches that often produce antibodies that deviate from the norm. They either take a healthy cell for an enemy or consider a really harmless agent for one that needs to be annihilated. This hypersensitivity is also known as allergies. They result in reactions that can be very mild, or very dangerous. For safety reasons, it is quintessential for one who has allergies to bring along an epipen carrier, just in case.

There are many agents or factors that bring about these reactions. These particles in the environment that lead to hypersensitivity is more commonly known as an allergen. This spring, one very common type is the pollen allergy, which inhibits one from enjoying all the fragrant blooms all around. This is also known as hay fever and is a type of a seasonal thing.

Those who are allergic to dust mites now have a valid reason to be exempted from house cleaning. Dust mites are very tiny organisms that live in the dust that a not so tidy home usually accumulates. Unlike seasonal triggers such as the case of the pollen variety, this occurs the entire year round. One can place dust mite covers over mattresses, pillows, and other stuff to prevent the onset of reactions.

People who develop a rash or any reaction when exposed to damp areas may have a mold allergy. These are parasitic and microscopic fungi that float in the air, just like pollen. They thrive in areas such as the bathroom, the basement, in grass, piles of leaves and hay. They bear more or less the same symptoms such as the first two.

Food allergy is perhaps the most common type. It is often brought about by trigger foods such as milk, shellfish, nuts, fish, wheat and eggs. The reaction usually occurs within minutes after consumption. The best way to avoid this is not to consume the offending food, which is why it is important to ask guests of any food allergies first before offering them anything.

Reactions are often mild and are not really causes for worry and panic. These minor effects can even be treated right at home. The patient can be administered with over the counter drugs such as decongestants and antihistamines. These drugs often come in the form of nasal sprays, drops, capsules and tablets.

Allergies can bring about very fatal reactions as well, which is commonly known as anaphylaxis. This is manifested by nausea, difficulties in breathing, dilated vessels and very low blood pressures. The patient should be treated immediately to avoid even more severe complications.

This is why allergic folks often bring along EpiPens with them. These one shot medications are often placed in special carriers. These shots contain a dose of epinephrine which is the first aid for anaphylaxis. This shot, however, only lasts about fifteen minutes. When the said pen is used, it is important to seek medical help immediately and rush to the nearest medical facility..
