Swallowing a pill is never an easy task. It is evident that a lot of people face a challenge to do it. Both adults and children are included. The reason for this is fear resulting from gagging. It makes our throats to tighten and makes the medicine to stay in our mouths until we spit it out. There are however solutions that can assist a person to learn how to swallow pills. Following these guidelines helps us to relax and overcome such a fear.

One can use food in swallowing the pill. However, this applies when is prescribed to take medication after eating. If the instructions are to take the pills on an empty stomach, one should choose an alternative method. In this method, a person can use his or her favorite food. One chews the food and place the pills in the mouth when food is still inside the mouth.

It is essential to adhere to the guidelines from the doctor. Our choice of food should not be one which will conflict the medication we are taking. At times we are instructed to take medicine when the stomach is empty. A small piece of bread might also help. It is cut then the pills is inserted. Later we should place it in the mouth and use water to take it down.

By using honey. In this, you should place your pill in a spoon and use honey or peanut butter to cover it. You then swallow all the contents and finally wash the throat by use of water. You might also fight swallowing challenge by practicing the act with a small candy until you are able to handle it. You may as well swallow a pill and immediately help it to go through the throat by eating.

We also can use liquids. In this, we sip a bit of water at the same time swallowing the medication. This is important in helping it to move smoothly and at the same time faster. When the medicine is in the throat, we take a few more sips to help in ingesting it. We can also change the choice of the drink. Juice can be such an alternative. The drink however should never react with the pill.

Some people will prefer drinking a lot of water instead of a sip. After drinking the water, one should insert the medicine in his or mouth and swallow it imagining that it is not present. One can also salivate to help wet the mouth. A dry mouth can cause difficulty in swallowing.

This difficulty can also be fought by relaxation. This can be achieved through activities such as looking for a quiet place or rather listening to music in an attempt to reduce anxiety. As a result, nerves are smoothened getting rid of gagging with is normally normal due to fear.

Lastly, taking a deep breath can be of great help. This will help one to relax. One should put the pill at the center as opposed to placing it on either of the sides. All this tips can be useful in helping someone with a problem in swallowing medicine.
